The Host Flash Team has been working hard to prepare version 3.0.0 for release this week. We chose to jump from 2.6.0 to version 3.0.0 to reflect the big changes made to the Host Flash code and feature set.
This next release includes a bugfix to the uninstall feature. There is a missing ‘sudo’ command next to the regular expression used to delete the blocklist from the hosts file. That is the smallest change in the upcoming release.
Version 3.0.0 introduces a new abstraction layer library. The details of what that is and how it works will be revealed at the time of release. We can reveal that the library will be helpful to many developers who use BASH to script their Linux programs.
Some of the existing code has been re-factored to enhance efficiency and for cosmetic purposes. We like to ‘build simple’ then condense; this makes it easier for us to quality check and edit code and to assess processes before we decide whether to keep them or not.
When we started work on this month’s cycle of code changes we had planned to not make extensive changes. We wanted to keep this a simple version update. However, another project we are currently working on requires several feature changes that compliment the Host Flash development path. We decided to work on the features that compliment both programs. This has created a delay in this release cycle but the advantage is that it pushes us several steps ahead in the Host Flash development path.
Expect Host Flash 3.0.0 to be released by Saturday.
Update: The release of Host Flash 3.0 has been delayed. A bug fix version was released this week to resolve a minor error.
